The Image Design Badge allows you to choose an image creation software or on
line application of your choice to design two images from scratch.  You may find the following resources useful in completing this badge.

Choosing an Application

Canva is a simple, intuitive, and free service available as an online browser app, or in the Android and Apple app stores.  It has lots of pre-designed templates, layouts, backgrounds, and built-in elements.  Some of the elements are available only for a purchase, but you can also upload your own content for your project.  They have their own tutorials on site and also a design stream where you can get inspiration for your projects.

PicMonkey is a great image design and photo editing tool available on a browser or as apps on mobile devices. It is a “Freemium” service, which means that, while there is a paid subscription level, there are also a lot of great features  and built-in elements that are absolutely free.  PicMonkey is very intuitive to use, but if you’re having trouble you can visit their great help menu (also located in the “My Account” dropdown from the upper right) for support.  PicMonkey is a great choice if you think you’ll be doing a lot of photo editing/image manipulation as part of your design project.

Presentation Softwares such as PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides actually have a lot of design versatility and can be great options for your project.  And by using the Page Setup feature, you can change the canvas to any size you choose.  You can also download your slides as PDFs or a variety of other photo file types, so you can print them, post them, or use them in a video.  These programs tend to have great Help articles and a rich variety of independently-made online resources as well.

Adobe Spark Post is a great product available in a browser or as a a mobile app for Apple devices.  The app supports seamless editing across any device, and it has an inspiration gallery and help articles as well. It has lots of built-in canvas sizes, themes, color palettes, and fonts; and you can perform a creative commons image search directly from the program, or upload your own elements.  Spark is easy to use and hard to mess up, but also has less versatility than some other options.

Adobe Illustrator is a professional image design software with lots of features and versatility, but also a steeper learning curve than the other options listed here.  As it is a professional software, it also can be pretty pricy, but it is available for use on many school computers.
